Mrs. Lottie Slezak, 87, of Bulls Head Road, Amsterdam, New York passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at the Albany Medical Center Hospital in Albany, New York.
She was born November 15, 1924 in the Town of Galway, Saratoga County, New York a daughter of the late John and Mary Sieminowicz Leszczynski. She was a graduate of Galway High School - Class of 1943, the Mildred Elley Business School in 1945 and the Amsterdam School of Practical Nursing in 1966. She was a lifelong area resident. Mrs. Slezak was first employed as a Secretary at Barber & Bennett in Albany, New York. From 1966 through 1995, she was a Licensed Practical Nurse at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam, New York in Maria Hall and later in the Ambulatory Care Unit. She was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. She also volunteered at the Amen Place Soup Kitchen and the American Red Cross blood drives. She enjoyed vegetable gardening, jig saw and crossword puzzles.Her favorite TV shows were Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. She loved walking, but, most of all she loved family time. She was married to Steve M. Slezak on August 24, 1947. He died November 9, 1997. She is survived by her children Michael T. Slezak, Nassau, New York, Mary De Young (Steven), Bedford, New York, Katherine Snyder (Gerald), and Karen Slezak, both of Amsterdam, New York; her grandchildren Laura De Young, New York City, New York, Sarah De Young, Wilmington, North Carolina and Michael J. Snyder, Lexington, Massachusetts; her sister Stella O'Brien, Schenectday, New York; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her siblings Jennie Leszczynski, Helen Kitchner, Marcella Warner, Steve Leszczynski, Sadie Livingston, Henry Leszczynski and Grace Kearns. The funeral will be held at 10:15 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2012 at the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home 200 Church Street, Amsterdam, New York followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends beginning at 8:30 a.m. until the service at 10:15 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Amen Place Soup Kitchen, 24 Pine Street, Amsterdam, New York or to St. Mary's Healthcare Foundation, 427 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, New York 12010.
