Miss Irene F. Blongiewicz, 98, formerly of Regina Lane, Amsterdam, New York passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at the River Ridge Living Center.
She was born January 29, 1914 in Amsterdam, New York a daughter of the late William and Domicella Blongiewicz. She was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School and always lived in the area.
She was first employed by the former Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Company. For 34 Years, she was employed as a Clerk-Typist by the federal government at the Scotia and Schenectady Navy Depot before retiring.
She was amember of St. Stanislaus Church and its former Harfa choir. She was also an avid bowler and belonged to the Monday Nite League.
Survivors include her sister Cyrilla Trzaskos, Binghamton, New York; sister-in-law Mary Blongiewicz, Amsterdam; nieces and nephews Carol (Chuck) Phillips, Tom Blongiewicz, Linda (Bill) Yager and Patty (Richard) Capalaces; great nieces and nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be held at 10:45 a.m. Saturday, January 19, 2013 at the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home 200 Church Street, Amsterdam, New York followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:15 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church with Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis, Celebrant.Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Visitation or calling period will begin at 9:30 a.m. until the prayer service. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus Church, 46 Cornell Street, Amsterdam, New York 12010.
