Mr. Joseph W. Lavicka, 88, of State Highway 30, Amsterdam, New York passed away Saturday, September 15, 2012 at the River Ridge Living Center in Amsterdam, New York.
He was born February 4, 1924 in Schenectady, New York a son of the late Joseph and Sophie Lavicka. He was a graduate of Draper High School and came to Amsterdam in the late 1940's.
Mr. Lavicka served in the Army from 1945 - 1946.
Joe was the owner and operator of L & M Appliances for many years. He was also a partner in the former Pin Haven Lanes on Route 30 North.
He was a member of St. Stanislaus Church. He was also a member of the Polish-American Veterans.
On June 25, 1949 he was united in marriage to the former Felicia M. Sajdak. She died February 7, 2010.He was also predeceased by his sister Roselyn Gentile.
He is survived by his sons Joseph J. Lavicka, Sr. (Pam), Amsterdam, New York and Gary E. Lavicka (Patricia), Johnstown, New York; his grandchildren Elise Lavicka and Joseph J. Lavicka, Jr., both of Amsterdam, New York and Lindsay Lavicka, Rochester, New York; brother and sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral service will be held at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home 200 Church Street, Amsterdam, New York with Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis officiating. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 - 7 p.m. Monday, September 17, 2012 at the funeral home.Memorial contributions may be made to the River Ridge Living Center - Activities Department, 100 Sandy Drive, Amsterdam, New York 12010.
