Miss Tatiana "Tally" Chuchman, 93, formerly of Locust Avenue, Amsterdam, New York passed away Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at the Home of the Good Shepherd at Highpointe in Malta, New York.
She was born September 21, 1918 in Amsterdam, New York a daughter of the late William and Mary Pyndyk Chuchman. Known as "Tillie" to her classmates, Tatiana graduated from Amsterdam's Wilbur H. Lynch High School in 1936. She went on to the Stae Normal School in Oneonta, New York where she earned a teacher's degree in 1939. She then embarked on a long career in education that included a position as third-grade teacher at the Jefferson School in South Schenectady. She received her Masters in Education from Syracuse University.
Tatiana enjoyed classical music and attending concerts in Saratoga. Described as having "wander lust" even as a child, she continued her pursuit of travel as an adult. She fondly recalled a trip to Hawaii and attending a performance by the Von Trapp Family Singers.
She was a lifelong parishoner of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church in Amsterdam, New York remaining active until her move to Malta.
She was predeceased by her brother Longen Chuchman on December 1, 2009.
She is survived by her sister-in-law Marian Chuchman, Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania; her nieces Kathryn Higgins(Randall) and Christine Stellefson(Wayne) both of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania and Donna Williamson (Don), Mt. Airy, Maryland; four great nephews: Nicholas Graham (Kimberly), Michael Stellefson, Jonathan Stellefson and Christopher Graham.
The funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, August 31, 2012 at the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home 200 Church Street, Amsterdam, New York with Rev. Marian Kostyk. Interment will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 - 7 p.m. Thursday, August 30, 2012 at the funeral home with Panachyda at 6:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 24 Pulaski Street, Amsterdam, New York 12010 or to Saratoga Hospice, 179 Lawrence Street, Saratoga Springs, New York 12065.
