Mrs. Stasia B. Bubniak, 98, formerly of Church Street, Amsterdam, New York passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at the Wilkinson Skilled Nursing Facility.

She was born May 8, 1914 in Amsterdam, New York a daughter of the late Anthony and Mary Gurczynski Kowalski. She attended local schools graduating from the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School - Class of 1932. She was also a graduate of the Amsterdam School of Commerce and the American Institute of Banking.

She was first employed by the former Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Company. Most of her working career centered on the Banking and financial institutions. She was a Teller and for 20 years, she was a Loan Officer at Marine Midland Bank, now known as HSBC, retiring in 1976.

She was a member of St. Stanislaus Church and its Ladies Rosary Society. She was also a sustaining member of St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliarry, St. Mary's Seniors and a member of the Polish National Alliance.

In her younger years, she was an avid bowler. She was a very active Scrabble player as well.

On September 12, 1936 she married Joseph W. Bubniak. He died August 3, 2002.

Survivors include her son Lt. Col. Robert P. Bubniak, USA, Ret. and daughter-in-law Joan Pawlak Bubniak, Annandale, Virginia, two granddaughters Alison Bubniak, Annandale, Virginia and Erica Bubniak Jones and her husband Michael Tissaw, Washington, DC; nephews William Carero, Camarillo, California , Christopher Carero, Florence, Kentucky and Richard Litwa, Burnt Hills, New York and several cousins.

The funeral will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012 at the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home 200 Church Street, Amsterdam, New York followed by a Con-Celebrated Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 a.m at St. Stanislaus Church with Rev. O. Robert De Martinis and Rev. Stanislaus Swierzowski. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 - 7 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2012 at the funeral home with the Rosary Society service at 5:15 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus Church, 46 Cornell Street, Amsterdam, New York 12010 or to Community Hospice of Amsterdam, 246 Manny Corners Road, Amsterdam, New York 12010.

The family would like to acknowledge the many acts of kindness of Stasia's neighbors and caregivers prior to and during her illness and the exceptional and compassionate care provided by the staff at Wilkinson Residential Healthcare Facility and the Community Hospice of Amsterdam.
